Now Playing: James Cameron's Avatar

I would like to preface this post by saying that I saw this movie in IMAX 3D; so you can understand how my opinions might be a tad skewed.

Last Thanksgiving I went to see Disney's Christmas Carol 3D. Needless to say the film sucked and isn't worth discussing. I was glued to my seat, however, for the entire duration of the film. How can this be? It is the new wave of 3D tech that is spreading though out the film industry. (By 'new' I mean it has been around for many years, it is just making a resurgence in popular culture)

Since I saw that movie I was determined to see a decent movie using the same method of simulating 3D. Then along comes Avatar.

I loved this movie. I expected very little of this movie. Not to say I believed James Cameron's string of successful movies was going to end; just that I wasn't really expecting anything special. I was wrong. This movie does suffer from some sub par acting from a few characters, recycled themes, predictable plot and over the top action. Taken as a whole, though, it is a very compelling film that captivated everyone in the audience and make 3 hours pass like a fleeting moment. I plan to say more and analyse this film further, but I want to give it a fair shot and will see it again before I say anymore.

For now, know this.

I will go out on a second date with you Mr. Cameron. But don't think you are gonna get lucky just 'cause I said yes this one time.

  1. I was surprised by this movie too. I expected Ferngully meets Matrix Revolutions, which it most definitely was, but I didn't expect it to be so well done. Considering I saw the movie in a regular theater I can't imagine how amazing it was in IMAX. I'll go see it again if you want.
