So I bought this game for PC the day it came out... Then put it under a stack of discs and promptly forgot about it. Fast forward 18 months and I decided to give this game a second shot. With the sequel's impending reload I took the time to formulate some opinions of the original Mass Effect. This game is Hot and Cold. By which I mean I didn't have a single moderate opinion about this game; I hated or loved each part. So here's the break down. (After all, if you don't want to hear grips about a game you beat two years ago you wouldn't have read this far.)
Hot:
1. Shooting - NO AMMO and every gun is bad-ass. Pick the one you like best and stick with it the whole time.
2. Design of Universe - Check for the Art book they released for more on this. I found it for cheap recently.
3. Plot - Cliches are good ideas that have been used many times. You could do a lot worse, but why end a new IP with a cliffhanger???
4. Sex with Aliens - Fuck them
5. Mako - Shut Up. These sections actually were fun on the PC.
6. Space Travel Interface - Zoom Zoom! I loved the star map, just wanted to go more places.
7. Science - Got us where we are today.
Cold:
1. Generic planets - I am sick of Gas Giants
2. User Interface - Let's make this annoying to the player to reduce the chance they will use the menus or alter settings.
3. Menus - Didn't you just read this? Yes they are so bad they are listed twice. I could write a 5 page rant on how crappy they are.
4. Humans - Worst characters in the game. Actively avoid having sex with these rejects!
5. The Ending - Was mentioned in the Hot section under plot. How about some opening credits next time?
6. Money - Completely Useless
7. Items (Armor, Upgrades, Weapons) - Mostly Useless
8. Leveling System - Partially Useless
I am intrigued by the save transfer for the sequel and am willing to get locked and loaded later next year. I give this game 9 out of 12 mind controlled colonists.

Also I find it interesting that you hate the menus so much. I heard they remade them specifically for the PC.
Mako on the console = Resident Evil controls with an aiming reticle that doesn't help gauge where fired shots land.
